Happy Fall

Burr, it was pretty cool here this morning, even the dog wanted inside. Isn't she cute??

We are enjoying the sunny days and mild temperatures so much....... fall is in the air. We enjoy every day because it goes by so very fast.

I was able to capture some of the fall beauty in nature today.

We had a very productive day today, finished projects, yahoo!
Allison's embroidery, which she drew freehand on the fabric and placed a beautiful border, and my pocketbook.

My oldest sweetie, "college girl" studying so hard while we had fun with our sewing.

My dad usually brings me a little something when he comes to visit. He owned a produce stand for several years so he loves to share tomatoes, pears, apples, and whatever fruit is in season.
Today this is what he appeared with at our door.

**Check back as I will be posting about the fall giveaway October 1st.**

worksheets for organization

Finding time this afternoon to de-clutter part of the schoolroom to prepare for our week.
Books, papers, pencils, charts, flashcards,etc. With only a very small space for our school supplies it's very important for my own sanity that I keep our little room organized. Everything in it's place. So, my goal is to plan our week and keep track of everything we are doing, supplies we will need, meal plans, activities, etc. This helps keep me on track and in doing so helps me have a "servant heart" for my family instead of what I call a "slaves heart," which is what happens when I'm stressed, unorganized, cluttered, and just plain behind in everything.

In journaling our activities for the week and writing down dates I came across a really neat website I'd like to share. Take a look at worksheetworks.com if you would like to have access to some great worksheets, calendars, etc. There are many categories including, handwriting, calendars, English, Math, mazes, and puzzles.

Gotta run, we are off to church. Our youth are presenting a skit at a neighbor church. Yahoo, we are excited. Sharing the LOVE of JESUS!!

Morning Walk

My daughter added this drawing of the Habiscus to her notebook.

I am alone with nature,
With the soft September day;
The lifting hills above me,
With the goldenrod are gay.

Across the fields of ether
Flit butterflies at play;

And cones of garnet sumac
Glow down the country way.

The autumn dandelion
Beside the roadway burns;
Above the lichened boulders
Quiver the plumed ferns.
The cream-white silk of the milkweed
Floats from its sea-green pod;

From out the mossy rock-seams
Flashes the goldenrod.

-Mary Clemmer Ames

Today was a perfect day to take a walk around and enjoy the outdoors. My, what you can find when you take the time to look. We took a little walk around the house with our camera and this is what we found.

Love for Learning

"O Lord, you preserve man and beast."
Psalm 36:6

During our school lessons today we read from the amazing magazine, Creation Illustrated.
My daughter was so interested in the article we were reading about bamboo, found in the 2007 Fall Issue, that she picked up a few other volumes and began to read other stories. As I was doing the dished she began to read out loud to me about Mongolian equines, or Prezewalski horses.
Mongolia, a country in Central Asia about half the size of Alaska, was once home to these horses. They were forced from their homeland by goat herders and farmers since they were a threat to the sheep and goats. Now, preservationists have created a safe haven for the creatures in parks where the Prezewalski can run wild and avoid extinction from God's creation.
In 1977, the Foundation for the Preservation and Protection of the Prezewalski Horse was founded in the Netherlands, and an exchange program among zoos and parks began in order to avoid inbreeding of the fragile Prezewalski populations.
Not only did she learn about the animals, but she began to delve into maps to find where Mongolia was located, as well as Cumberland, Ohio, where almost 10,000 acres of meadows and hills surrounding 110 lakes became a new home for some Prezewalski horses.

When we first began to home school my goal was to teach my children a "love for learning."
Today, as well as many days when I see this desire to learn, my heart is so thankful that the Lord opened doors for us to homeschool. Unlike the facts that sometimes we read and memorize in a textbook, she will always remember this information she learned today because she was investigating and learning about something she was truly interested in. Most of all, she learned how the Lord's creation is so amazing!!
So, she went on to write a one page report on all the information she found. I might mention that this all took place after we had finished our lessons for the day.
From that little study she got in quite a bit of school. Writing, reading, geography, spelling, history, and creation science. Not too bad when she was just "having fun."

New School year

We have been quite busy as school has started and we are back into our routines. Both daughters are doing well in school as we begin our new year.
Today is our first homeschool group meeting and we are excited to see all our friends.I must admit I'm a little sad that summer is almost over but I truly love "new beginnings."
It's exciting as we start a new year and anticipate all the blessings God has in store for us during this new year of school with new friends.
I've missed posting on my blog and hope to post more often. Here are a few pictures to share.

Doggie Bath

My daughters and I put corn in the freezer, yummy!

Quilting Again! Yeah, I'm finally making my oldest daughter her quilt. The fabrics are beautiful!
You can see my little pincushion in the background that I made over the summer, so cute.
